If you’ve ever had a long conversation with someone about seafood, there’s a good chance that oysters came up! Oysters are some of the most popular seafoods to eat; they’re easy to prepare, can be made in several different ways, and are a welcome addition to any meal. The only problem that you might run into with oysters is deciding what way to cook them. So, how can you make that determination? We go over the pros and cons of the most common ways below!
Grilled Oysters
This is probably the least common way to cook oysters, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not a good way! Grilling your oysters will give them a smoky flavor that you won’t be able to get with other methods. The cooking time here is also on the quicker side of the different methods, as you really only need to leave them on for 5 minutes. However, there is a bit of prep involved; you’ll need to shuck each oyster before grilling it!
Fried Oysters
There aren’t a lot of foods out there that don’t taste good fried, and oysters definitely fall into the majority! The preparation you’ll need to do for this method is the most lengthy, but the cook time is also the shortest of the methods. You’ll not only need to shuck your oysters, but coat them and prepare the deep fryer, too. However, you’ll only need to leave them in for about 2 minutes before they’re ready to serve.
Steamed Oysters
This may be the most popular way of cooking oysters, and for good reason; the final product is very tasty! However, this way of cooking is by far the most preparation heavy. You’ll need to clean your oysters just prior to steaming in addition to preparing the steaming liquid. This will ensure that your oysters don’t go bad through the process. Cooking them is relatively simple, as they only need about 5-10 minutes. When the oysters open, you’ll know that they’re done. The end result will be worth your wait!
